Dr. Johnny Scott is a Professor in the Division of Nuclear Medicine in the Department of Radiology. He is also a Professor in the Division of Clinical Pathology in the Department of Pathology, and Assistant Dean in charge of minority medical education - student and faculty - at the UAB School of Medicine.
Dr. Scott serves the Birmingham Veterans Administration Medical Center as Chief of the Nuclear Medicine Service. He is also a member of the Planning Board for the BVAMC. Dr. Scott is a member of the National Sickle Cell Foundation serving as a member of their Board of Directors as well as a medical advisor with the Jefferson County Sickle Cell Foundation. He is a member of the Alabama Sickle Cell Commission having served as vice chairman for 4 years. Dr. Scott is laboratory director for Family Practice laboratories at Inverness, Hueytown, Homewood, and Roebuck clinics. Dr. Scott;s research interests include hemoglobinopathies, protein interactions at interfaces, membrane transport, radionuclide evaluation of renal function, drug interactions, evaluation of new methodologies of analysis, and use of monoclonal antibodies in the diagnosis of disease processes.
